REAL COOL STORIES (week ended 1/18/20)

This week I had the opportunity to see an amazing documentary film, This Mountain Life.  https://mountainlifefilm.com/

The film focused on various characters in British Columbia, Canada, which is 75% covered in mountains.  The mountain landscapes in the film are amazing.  The filmmaker, Grant Baldwin, noted that many of us never truly venture into the wilderness.  I would agree!

The main characters are Martina and Tania Halik, a mother-daughter duo that tackle a 2300-kilometer (1430 miles) trek along the Coast mountains from Squamish, B.C. up to Skagway, Alaska.  This is not a common trip!  The journey had only been completed ONCE before!  The planning took well over a year.  Unfortunately for the duo, it was one of the coldest winters in recent years.  They endured several days with -20 F temperatures.  The footage, however, is truly spectacular.  The duo also blogged and here is a link to their first trip post from Skagway to Whistler.  http://www.coastmountainepic.ca/squamish-to-whistler/

The other characters interspersed in the film are equally interesting in their own right.  I am still struck by the raw beauty of the mountains in all seasons.  The mountain people have a unique view of their environment that certainly makes you think!

Mr. Baldwin answered some questions after the screening and noted that the Martina and Tania are looking at doing more crazy adventures.  The film is a joy to watch.

A real, cool (well COLD!) story indeed!
