REAL COOL STORIES (week ending January 12, 2019)

In the US – Jayme Closs, a 13-year-old girl from Wisconsin escaped her captor and was reunited with family members.  Almost three months ago a man entered their home, murdered Jayme’s parents and kidnapped Jayme.  She was apparently targeted but investigators still have no reason as to why.  After an evaluation at a local hospital where she was found, she was reported in good condition and was ecstatic to hold her dog.

Her aunt posted on Facebook, “Jayme had a pretty good night sleep it was great to know she was next to me all night what a great feeling to have her home.  As a family we will get through all of the healing process Jayme has.  It will be a long road but we are family strong and we love this little girl so much!”

Unfortunately, few of these stories have a happy ending.  With all the negative around this story, a very positive for Jayme and her relatives.  Way to go Jayme!  You must be a badass!

In sports – I happened to turn on the UCLA at Oregon college basketball game midway through the second half.  Fun ending unless you are an Oregon fan!

UCLA came back from a nine-point deficit with under a minute to play to beat Oregon in overtime.  The score was 74-65 until UCLA’s Jaylen Hands made a three-point basket with 47 seconds to play.  UCLA intentionally missed a free throw with two seconds left, Chris Smith got a rebound and a put back to tie the game.  He was fouled on the play but missed the free throw which would have won the game in regulation.  UCLA outscored the stunned Ducks 7-4 in OT for the win.  Bad beat!

The real cool story was the leadership from 6’3” Hands.  After 6’9” Smith missed the potential winning free throw, he was hanging his head!  Hands went over and pushed his chin up.  Actions speak louder than words.  A real cool moment!
