REAL COOL STORIES – 1/6/22

REAL COOL STORIES (1/6/22)

Today, I tested positive for COVID.  Wow!  That is really hard to say.

I was on a trip to Florida from Dec 18-Jan 1.  It was a great trip overall and got to spend time with my part of my immediate family in a wonderful place.

I tried making an appointment to get tested a couple of days before my return home.  No luck – booked for days.  My reasoning was that my 88-year-old Father-in-law was coming to visit in a couple of days.  I did not want to infect him.

I went to an outdoor testing location and stood in line for several hours.  I completed the swab and was told that results were going to take 1 to 4 days.  That was not going to work for me.  Yikes.

The search for another option started.  It was actually my wife that had a suggestion based on a recent discussion with a friend.  So, I got an appointment for a video call with a medical professional ($100) which enabled me to get a same day testing slot.  Took the test and got a negative result 10 minutes later.

Off to see my son and his family – especially my wonderful 2-year-old grandson.  I really enjoyed getting a chance to hang with him for an hour or so.

The following morning, I had a bit of a cough and sore throat.  It was the day of my Father-in-laws expected arrival.  Due to weather in his location, his flight was canceled.  We decided to rebook for a few days later when the weather looked good.  It was a long day with several calls trying to get flights rebooked, luggage returned and a ride back to his home (50 miles from airport).  Then, I received a notification that I had been exposed via the CA Notify system.  It was the first such notification I had received since signing up a long time ago.

So, with the impending arrival (again!) of my Father-in-law and new information, it was back to the medical professional ($100) for a second video call and test.  The result was not what I wanted.

I must now deal with things a bit differently for the next several days.  Also, will my wife test positive?

We are both rather healthy, but you never know.  It’s been a very strange week.

What irony would it be that I was infected when trying to just get a test to be comfortable for a visit from an 88-year-old man?  I now have a better appreciation for how contagious and tricky this new variant has become.

My hope is that ALL recover from COVID and go back to living an awesome life!
