REAL COOL STORIES (week ended 4/11/20)

Well, life has become all about COVID-19, so here are my observations (from a social distance!)

This story comes close to home.  My son, daughter-in-law and grandson live about 10 minutes from us in a gate guarded community.  We fortunately get the chance to see them often.

Their HOA sent out a notice that a young resident (Hannah) was going to be running a marathon on Sunday April 5th.  Hannah was expecting to run the Boston Marathon on April 20th.  Due to COVID-19 it has been postponed until September.  Since she was ready, she decided to run a marathon in the neighborhood.  There is a flat two-mile(ish) loop through the development.

Several neighbors made signs and cheered Hannah on for the run.  There was a board updating where she would have been on the Boston course.  Several runners joined Hannah for a lap or two.

My wife ran Boston in 1996.  It was the 100th running and Boston was “open” for the time in its history.  Prior to 1996, the Boston Marathon had no more than 10,000 runners.  More than 36,000 started the race that day, by FAR an all-time record.  An amazing 35,868 finished the race.

My wife was cleaning out some boxes and found her old medals from Boston and many other runs.  She decided to give her 1996 Boston medal to Hannah.  She dropped it off with our son.  He gave it to Hannah after she finished.

The local NBC affiliate did a great story about the day.
