REAL COOL STORIES (week ended 4/4/20)

Well, life has become all about COVID-19, so here are my observations (from a social distance!)

Sunday – Went for a long afternoon walk.  It was eerily quiet at the beach as it’s closed.  The amount of families riding bikes and walking was incredible.  Maybe some good comes from this pandemic.  Families spend more time together and find ways to exercise and entertain each other.

Rest of the week – injured my hip flexor which has significantly reduced my mobility.  Not getting out much.  Finally had a doctor’s visit (video) on Friday.  Started some anti-inflammatories and a muscle relaxer.

Read many, many positive stories this week about how people are dealing with COVID-19.

An older woman in Belgium refused to take a ventilator from a younger patient and passed away at the age of 90.  She told the doctors, “Save it for younger patients. I’ve already had a good life.”

A woman in Detroit tested positive for the virus as her symptoms started to subside.  Very good news for the 40-year old who was 36 weeks pregnant.  She delivered the baby just fine but was not allowed to have a support person with her.  Hospital policy had changed and despite many requests, including the delivering doctor making a plea, the hospital said no.  Her husband texted and chatted with the woman via video all morning.  He was with his other child when he got the call for the birth. He slid open the video chat to his wife trying to hold the phone while nurses in full PPE rushed around the room.

A nurse took the phone as she started to push. Two contractions later, their son, Hollis, was born at 10:34 a.m.  The woman and child would need to remain isolated for 24 before the husband and big brother could meet the new addition to the family.

Real cool stories indeed!

Let’s beat COVID-19!
